Four Deadly E-Book Mistakes
Information is the lifeblood of internet marketing and e-books and reports are the veins that carry it through the world wide web. The PDF format is the most popular file protocol for your e-product because of its relative safety and the multitude of useful options it provides. Therefore, it is vital that you avoid a few deadly errors that can sabotage your hard work and effort.
The biggest mistake you can make when setting up your new e-book is in not controlling your exterior links from the pages. Whether the link is to an affiliate page or other program, you will want your e-book link to go to a controllable page on your own website and use a redirect to take the user to the website or advertisement you desire. The reason this oversight can cost you dearly is because affiliations and businesses can change or go out of business and you may have to substitute the old one for a new product or service. If all your previously sold e-books have a hard code to the old information then you have lost a sale and confused your readers.
Hand-in-hand with the previous mistake is the need to code your exterior links to open a new browser window. Most PDF maker programs will default to opening the link in the same window as the book. However, many new browser upgrades will not allow this and it can cause the entire process to crash. If you circumvent this dilemma by automatically opening a new window, then your user has a secure place to navigate the site you sent them to and they can also refer back to your book for any information they may want to re-reference while looking over the information on the site.
Dating your material or including too specific information can also cost you sales or the ability to modify your offers over time. Inflation is but one cause of fluctuating prices and if you have specifically quoted a price in your book and the originator has raised the price or changed the options over time then your customer will have no option but to think they have been lied to even if the information was accurate a year ago. Always be general enough that your book can be reflective of changes over time.
Time itself is another thing to take into consideration when deciding on the information to add to your e-book. For instance, if you include contact information, you will not want to use a telephone number or other real-time form of communication. The internet is a global venture and if you tell people to call you then you can expect to be up twenty-four hours a day as our daytime is night on the other side of the planet and vice-versa. Using a form of communication which takes this global time shift into account will make your customer relations flow more smoothly as well as allowing you a bit of time to rest. This is not a large mistake but it is one that can create undesirable problems in your life.
